How much water do you really need to drink?

Image
Is the eight glasses rule legit? Plus, easy ways to get more hydration. We don’t always have the answers, but we have some people on speed dial who do — which is why we present to you our series TMI (Too Much Information) where we have experts explain if lip balm is actually bad, how often should you wash your hair and more.  There’s nothing new about the idea that drinking water is good for your health. However, from the gallon-a-day-of-water TikTok challenge to the Stanley Quencher being the hottest accessory to carry around, it does seem as though hydration is at the forefront of people’s minds more than ever. But how much water do you really need?  Some people say you need to drink eight glasses a day, others say more than that and then others say less. For the sake of clarity, we spoke with two nutritionists to get to the bottom of how much water you should be drinking per day. We also asked them why it’s important to stay hydrated and for tips on how to make sure you get...

‘Oppenheimer,’ Lily Gladstone win at SAG Awards

The 30th Screen Actors Guild Awards were streamed live on Netflix, a first for a major Hollywood award show. “Oppenheimer” continued to steamroll through Hollywood’s awards season on Saturday, winning the top prize, for outstanding cast, along with awards for Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr., at the 30th Screen Actors Guild Awards. As the Academy Awards draw closer, Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster biopic — already a winner at the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs — has increasingly looked like the run-away favorite. The SAG Awards, one of the most telling Oscar predictors, will only add to the momentum for “Oppenheimer,” the lead Academy Awards nominee with 13 nods. The SAG Awards were streamed live on Netflix, a first for a major Hollywood award show. That made for some significant tweaks to the age-old traditions of such ceremonies. There were no ads. Alabama's IVF ruling puts Republicans in a political bind

The recent Alabama Supreme Court decision found that embryos are children, causing Republican politicians to scramble to figure out where they stand on the matter. As Republicans struggle to coalesce around a message on abortion ahead of the 2024 elections, a recent Alabama Supreme Court decision finding that embryos created through in vitro fertilization are considered children has put them in a new bind. The issue has created complications for politicians who have pushed strict anti-abortion policies, said that they believe life begins at conception, or believe that an embryo or fetus deserves the full rights of a person. The Alabama Supreme Court ruling showed the far-reaching consequences those sorts of policies could have for families, and the political difficulties Republicans still face in coming up with a way to talk about the issue to voters. The ruling has many doctors and families worried that IVF will become less available, because people could theoretically be sued for des...

Five takeaways from New York's special election to replace George Santos

Democratic former Rep. Tom Suozzi won Tuesday's race, with big implications for the GOP House majority and potential lessons for the fall campaigns. WOODBURY, N.Y. — A decisive victory Tuesday for Tom Suozzi flipped a bellwether New York House district into the Democratic column, thinning an already small House GOP majority and potentially offering a preview of the campaign tactics in 2024 battleground races nationally. Suozzi, a Democratic former congressman, defeated Republican Mazi Pilip in the special election to replace former GOP Rep. George Santos in the Long Island-based 3rd District. Santos was expelled from Congress in December following his indictment on federal charges and a damning Ethics Committee report. He has pleaded not guilty and is set to go to trial in September. While special elections always have unique dynamics, including lower turnout, there are some key takeaways from Tuesday’s election with national implications. They include what the results mean for the...
